Over 350 guests attended The Ireland Funds annual Rugby Lunch in Dublin’s Shelbourne Hotel on Friday 8th February. The lunch honoured Irish Rugby Legend, Dr Syd Millar not only for his role as a great player and manager of the national side but as a leader in working to help others. The Ireland Funds in Ireland Board Director and former Irish International player, Trevor Ringland, presented Syd with his award at the event.
On hand to pay tribute to Syd was the Chairman of The Ireland Funds, Hugo MacNeill. Other former rugby internationals in attendance included Brendan Mullin, Philip Matthews and Killian Keane.
Amongst the attendees was British Ambassador to Ireland, Ambassador Dominick Chilcott. Irish Board Directors were represented by Caroline Kennedy, David Duffy, Michael Houlihan, David McRedmond, Jim Barry, John Crimmins, Mark Cunningham, Ronan Foley, Tommy Gallagher, Emer Gilvarry, David McRedmond, and Philip Nolan and overseas chapters were represented by Peter Sutherland, Basil Geoghegan and Archie Bennett. The President and CEO of The Worldwide Ireland Funds, Kieran McLoughlin, spoke to the capacity crowd about The Ireland Funds Promising Ireland Campaign. Caitriona Fottrell, Director Ireland, gave an overview on the role of The Ireland Funds in Ireland, speaking about the real need amongst the not for profit sector throughout the island, the levels of requests The Ireland Funds receive on a weekly basis and the support The Ireland Funds are able to provide.
The Ireland Funds Young Leaders also were in attendance led by Director of Young Leaders Caitlin Duffy and Chair of the Young Leaders Committee, Erica Roseingrave.
