We were delighted to host Zach Touhy, one of the most accomplished Irish players in AFL history and Catherine Murphy, Ireland Fund Director and ABC Sports Presenter, at the Melbourne Celtic Club, Wild Geese Bar and Bistro, with whom we were very pleased to partner. Zach Tuohy’s dream was to play Gaelic football and win an All-Ireland with his county. But when, at just nineteen, he was offered a professional contract to play football on the other side of the world, he seized the opportunity with both hands. Now, Zach reflects on this journey in his autobiography The Irish Experiment – From the GAA to the AFL, co-written by Catherine. We enjoyed a wonderful evening where Catherine and Zach chatted about the book, his remarkable experiences and memorable moments from his career and the cultural crossover of two great sports, while also highlighting his role as a trailblazer for Irish athletes in the AFL.
