The Singapore Ireland Fund held its Supporters Lunch on St Patrick’s Day at the Absinthe restaurant on Singapore’s famous Boat Quay. 80 guests attended including Guest of Honour, the Irish Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Mr Brendan Howlin.
Other special guests included HE Irish Ambassador Joseph Hayes and his wife, Deirdre Hayes, Dr Maurice Manning, Chancellor of the National University of Ireland and Dr Attracta Halpin, Registrar of the National University of Ireland.
Despite the rain, all enjoyed the pre-luncheon drinks on the waterfront and lunch in one of Singapore’s heritage conservation shophouses, and were entertained by the Irish Chamber Orchestra Quartet. The Quartet was sponsored by The Singapore Ireland Fund to play at events during the St Patrick’s Day Street festival as well as to participate in the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth’s School Music Programme.
The afternoon ended with some guests participating in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the street festival that followed.
