The Singapore Ireland Fund Supports the Overseas Immersion Programme in Ireland for Singapore students of The Singapore Institute of Technology
On the 24th February 2014, Dr. Stanley Quek, Chairman of The Singapore Ireland Fund, (TSIF) accompanied by Irish Ambassador, Mr. Joe Hayes and his wife Deirdre, were guests of Prof. Tan Thiam Soon, President of the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and Senior staff of SIT at a Gala lunch to mark the presentation by TSIF of an endowed, in perpetuity gift towards the establishment of a grant to benefit SIT students, so that they may gain valuable educational experience from an Overseas Immersion Programme (OIP) in Ireland.
The Singaporean recipients to date are Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Graduates of SIT’s Degree Programme which is run in partnership with Trinity College, Dublin. A number of students attended the lunch and gave enthusiastic and positive presentations on their 6 week sojourn in Dublin where they completed their internships in a number of Dublin hospitals, speaking about how the OIP experience had enriched their learning.
Thanking The Singapore Ireland Fund for the gift, Prof. Tan said, “the opportunity to interact with mentors and fellow students in a learning environment far beyond Singapore, and to partake of Ireland’s rich culture – these are benefits that will widen our student’s horizons and experiences which will stay with them for life.”
