On Monday, November 4th, the New York Young Leaders gathered at Tavern 29 to meet NY Giants defensive star, Terrell Thomas and watch the Chicago Bears take on the Green Bay Packers.
Complimentary hors d’oeuvres were served along with complimentary Sixpoint seasonal beers and Jameson cocktails as the Young Leaders had the opportunity to watch professional football with a professional football player and ask him, amongst other things, what it’s like to play in front of a national television audience.
John “The Derry Destroyer” Duddy was on hand to enjoy the fun along with another Irish boxing legend in Wayne McCullough and actor Holt McCallany who played boxer ‘Lights Leary’ in the FX drama Lights Out. They attended courtesy of our friends at Athletes Quarterly Magazine who recently did a feature on Duddy, McCullough & McCallany as well as Terrell Thomas.
At halftime, National Director of the Young Leaders, Pat Tully, hosted a Q&A with Terrell Thomas. Terrell provided the audience with a good look inside the Giants locker room and into the team’s mindset as they continue to try and turn their 2013 season around. The conversation then turned to the importance of professional athletes giving back to the community and becoming role models for young kids. That is something Terrell practices every day here in New York and through his youth football camp back in his home town of Los Angeles.
The microphone was then turned over to the audience who had the opportunity to ask Terrell some questions of their own. This was followed by a trivia contest with prizes ranging from gift certificates to Tavern 29 to tickets for the Giants vs. the Raiders and NFL Footballs that Terrell autographed for those who knew their Giants trivia.
Special thanks to Tavern 29 and especially event manager Clare Mione & owner Croine O’Halloran. Also thanks to our beverage sponsors for the evening, Sixpoint Brewery and Jameson Irish Whiskey.
