On Saturday, July 28th
The American Ireland Fund hosted 130 people at their annual Nantucket
Celebration held at the newly renovated Dreamland Theater in downtown
Nantucket. This year’s Nantucket Celebration was co-chaired by Bob and Laura
Reynolds, Chris and Ann Quick and Linda Holliday and the honoree was Wendy
Schmidt.
Through her founding of ReMain Nantucket and leadership efforts to restore and
reinvent The Dreamland Theater, Wendy Schmidt has been a tireless supporter of
creative initiatives that enhance the economic, social and environmental
vitality of downtown Nantucket. As an environmental philanthropist, she has
supported the evolution of a healthy, year round community on Nantucket that
flourishes in its iconic and historic downtown. Wendy’s passion and work have
become a vital resource of the island.
Among the guests attending were Vanity
Fair feature writer Maureen Orth, Former General Electric Chairman Jack
Welch and his wife Suzy, American Ireland Fund National Board of Director and
Boston Capital Corporation’s Jack Manning and his wife Lyle Howland, Chairman
& CEO of The Boston Company Bart Grenier and his wife American Ireland Fund
National Board of Director Lesley King Grenier, and American Ireland Fund
National Board of Director Ambassador Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, along with many
other Nantucket Celebration Committee members including Guy & Dede Snowden,
Bob & Laurie Monahan, Tommy & Leslie Bresette, Scott & Sheila
Knight, Bob Mooney, Kevin Callahan, Danielle deBenedictus and many others.
Also attending were Nantucket
Committee Members Jim and Sue Geraghty of Westford, MA who were also the patron
sponsors of the Boston Young Leaders St. Patrick’s Event and many Boston Young
Leaders including Maura and Ryan Fitzpatrick, Annie Geraghty, Abbey Reynolds,
Tim Redmond, Michael Greeley, Rebecca Ferrel, Brady Moore, Grayson Palmer,
Annie Warner, George Ferrel, and Natasha Atkinson.
It was a
great Irish night on Nantucket, thank you to all who attended and supported
this event.

The reception raised funds for The American Ireland Fund’s
support of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community
development in Ireland. The Worldwide Ireland Funds are in the midst of their Promising
Ireland Campaign to raise $140 million for charities.
