Young Leaders Global 5k 2015 – London
On 26th of September more than 40 runners from the London chapter of World Wide Ireland Funds Young Leaders gathered enthusiastically in Hyde Park to take part in the 2nd Annual Global 5K. This was an event that took place in 15 cities on 3 continents in support of hardworking charities across Great Britain and Ireland.
Hyde Park was exceptionally beautiful on that crisp autumn morning with the sun beaming down, creating perfect running conditions. There were many onlookers as the hoard of green-clad participants stormed past them and even Irish TV came down to report on the occasion.
The first runner across the finish line was Connor Murphy with an impressive 21.59 minutes, followed very closely by John Paul Eaton who was our biggest fundraiser with over £300 raised. A special thanks also goes out to Eileen Hosey who showed great spirit by running with a baby and a push-chair.
During the race one of our runners was joined by none other than Michael Flatley, out for his morning run, who was very taken with the fabulous green t-shirts highlighting all the sponsors.
After the run, all the participants and family members gathered at The Churchill Arms pub in Notting Hill to enjoy some refreshments before the rugby game kicked off. It was a great day and we would like to thank everyone who attended for their time and support for such a great cause.
We at The Ireland Funds also want to extend a special thank you to Victoria Wallace who put a lot of her time and effort into making the event such a great success.
We are already looking forward to next year’s Annual Global 5K.
