Japan – Tokyo – Annual Global 5k 2018

After the success of the first year for The Irish Run the World in Tokyo last year the committee moved the event to a bigger venue to accommodate a larger group this year.

Luckily, we did as we had 103 people attend the event this year.  Most of these ran, some came a little later and just joined the BBQ celebrations afterwards.

The committee took the runners to the Tamagawa Green Space BBQ area on the banks of the Tamagawa River for this year’s run.   A common running route for many of the running clubs here in Tokyo.

The weather had promised to be a wet soft day to add to the Irishness of the day!   Fortunately, it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon.

Chad and John P did an excellent job on the BBQ.  The runners and supporters all had very happy faces after the run with plenty of food and drinks available. Old friends, new friends and families stayed late into the afternoon enjoying another great day hosted by The Ireland Funds Japan.

Thanks to Warm Hearts Coffee for coming along and providing free coffee to our runners too.

Thanks to our Platinum Partner Toyoko Inn who had 12 runners on the day, KPMG for the T-shirt sponsorship and all our other local sponsors.  A big shout out to the Committee who have been planning this day for the last 3 months – A hearty Cead Mile Failte to all involved.  Or we say here in Tokyo ありがとうございます!

All funds raised from the event will be split 50/50 between a Japanese charity supporting marginalised youth called Mirai no Mori and an Irish charity supporting youth in care called EPIC.
