On a windy but warm spring afternoon, the 17th annual Texas Irish American Cup Shootout started at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 19, 2014.
Ten Irish and ten American teams started on hole #14 playing for their respective countries. After just over 3 hours the Irish team of Michael Collins and Mickey McLoughlin made a bogey 5 on hole #17 to win. David Truett and Kenny Springfield won for the Americans making the only par on #17.
The 2 twosomes played hole #18 with over 200 interested spectators. The Americans once again won making a 6 on #18 to the Irish making an 8. The Americans now hold the edge 11-6 after winning the last 6 years in a row.
The duo of Chris Elliott and Michael DiPrima played outstanding golf in the Celtic Shootout to capture the victory. Chris and Michael made par on all three of the closing holes to hold off the remaining 7 teams. On 17, Elliot hit a tremendous shot from the trees on the left side of the hole onto the green en route to capturing the title.
Former Dallas Cowboy star and current NFL on Fox Sports analyst, Daryl Johnston, provided masterful color commentary for the final four. After having to miss last year due to recovery from knee surgery, Tommy Gallagher returned and brought the Irish together for the tournament and special thanks to our dedicated Co-Chairs Cheryl and Sam Chantilis whose dedicated hard work made the amazing day a reality! Special thanks to the sponsors of the Texas Irish American Cup including: Remington Hotels, Aer Lingus & JetBlue, the Kennedy brothers, Trackingpoint by John McHale, Westwood Trust, Cassin & Cassin, CarryOn LLC, and Kilbeggan Distilling Company.
