The American Ireland Fund Boston Young Leaders hosted a lively crowd of 600+ at the Annual Young Leaders St. Patrick’s Celebration. Keeping with tradition, the group celebrated at one of Boston’s finest venues, the picturesque Wharf Room in the Boston Harbor Hotel, located in the heart of Boston Harbor.
With popular Irish band “Devri” providing a variety of Irish and up-tempo music, the boisterous crowd enjoyed perfectly-drawn pints of Guinness and hors d’oeuvres. Hot bidding on silent auction items including, among others, premium sports tickets, golf dates, spa visits, hotel stays and restaurant gift certificates added to the excitement.
In her remarks, Young Leaders St. Patrick’s Celebration Chairman Amy Koch Flynn thanked everyone, especially her hard-charging “field generals”, Terence Connell, Mike Greeley and Aengus McAllister, who served as Vice Chairmen, and the “best Young Leaders Committee in Boston.” The American Ireland Fund New England Director and Vice President of Major Gifts Steve Greeley then put the event in context by highlighting The American Ireland Fund’s forty year history and the importance of the Young Leaders to the Funds’ future. New Consul General of Ireland to Boston, Fionnuala Quinlan, speaking “on behalf of the grateful government of Ireland and our people”, praised the many contributions The Ireland Funds have made to Ireland over the years and thanked the crowd for “the high Irish spirit in the room.”
At the close of the Celebration AIF New England Director Steve Greeley said “Once again our Boston Young Leaders kept pace with the Boston Gala committee and raised a record amount of revenue that will help fund many vital grants this year. This was a very lively, convivial and record-breaking evening and bodes well for the future of the Young Leaders. There was quite a buzz in The Wharf Room. We are ever-grateful to our friends and supporters.”
