On May 28th 2010, the clear blue of the sky and radiance of the sun were exceeded only by the exuberance and generosity of the guests at our 13th Annual Day at the Races at Woodbine Racetrack. The crowd was stunning. Fancy hats and striking ties lit up the room – or rather, tent – reserved for us, just steps from the track.
Friends, family and new acquaintances laughed and mingled over refreshing beverages and a decadent lunch buffet. All were geared up for what proved to be an electrifying day of horse racing, live auction, silent auction and raffle, in support of the Celtic Studies program at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto. It was truly a fun filled celebration of Irish culture, with the added thrill of friendly competition.
The Fund was pleased to have James Kelly, Program Manager of Ireland Canada University Foundation from Dublin, join us in the fundraising for St. Michael’s College.
We extend a great thank you to our dynamic Master of Ceremonies, Hugo Straney, who entertained our guests with song, anecdotes, and his familiar lively charm while keeping the Live Auction full of bidders!
Heartfelt gratitude also goes out to the inspiring Co-chairs Kevin Gallagher and Eithne Heffernan for their enthusiasm and passion, and the hard working Committee and volunteers who were instrumental in the tremendous success of this event, facilitating the Fund to raise money in support of the Celtic Studies program at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto for the Artist-in-Residence program.
