On Friday, July 25th, The Ireland Funds proudly hosted its annual Nantucket Celebration at the Whaling Museum, honoring the remarkable community contributions of Glenn and Mary Jane Creamer.
Caitriona Fottrell, President & CEO of The Ireland Funds, welcomed guests, including Ireland’s Ambassador to the US, Geraldine Byrne Nason, 2024 honorees Bob & Laurie Monahan, and special guest Bishop da Cunha of Fall River. With heartfelt appreciation, she acknowledged the dedication of the event’s Co-Chairs: Ambassador Elizabeth Frawley Bagley, Bart & Leslie King Grenier, Bob & Laurie Monahan, Bill & Una Murphy, Chris & Ann Quick, Bob & Laura Reynolds, and Jay & Kristin Waring, as well as the Nantucket Committee Members for their unwavering support.
Mary Jane and Glenn graciously accepted the award from Bishop da Cunha, who spoke passionately about their generous spirit for helping others. He thanked them for their philanthropy and leadership, not only on the island but also in Massachusetts communities and globally.
In their acceptance speech, Glenn and Mary Jane expressed deep gratitude for this honor, reflecting on their shared Irish heritage. Glenn, with roots in Co. Leitrim, and Mary Jane, tracing her lineage to Roscommon, poignantly stated, “It’s in our ancestry, it’s in our hearts.” They articulated their pride in supporting The Ireland Funds, emphasizing that its mission embodies the resilience, creativity, and generosity inherent in Irish culture. They thanked The Ireland Funds for all the good it continues to do, and said they were proud to play even a small part.
As friends and supporters gathered to champion the mission of The Ireland Funds, the Whaling Museum resonated with lively Irish music, delicious Irish-inspired cuisine, and a palpable sense of community. Maudy Dooher, Vice President of Development for New England, expressed her gratitude for everyone’s generous support and invited guests to attend The Ireland Funds Boston Gala on November 19.
The Nantucket Celebration honors the spirit of giving and the enduring legacy of The Ireland Funds, as we continue to come together each year to make a meaningful impact.
