Business Post Business Breakfast 2024
On Wednesday 17th April, The Ireland Funds Great Britain co-hosted a Ministerial briefing on UK-Irish trade relations with Business Post at Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill in the heart of London.
Breakfast was served whilst an insightful discussion was had between Minister Charlie McConalogue TD and Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Hilary Benn MP. The discussion was led by Business Post Editor, Daniel McConnell and themes such as collaboration between the two governments, trade between Ireland and the UK post-Windsor Framework and the EU relationship were amongst the prevalent points raised.
“When I was in Dublin recently I said that one thing a Labour government, if we were to be elected, would be committed to is to building and strengthening the relationship with Dublin”. These were the words of Benn as he discussed the importance of the two governments working together and for Labour to make a tangible effort to reach out to the Irish government. The relationship between the two governments has been fairly strained in recent years and this can be traced back to Brexit. However, at the breakfast event, McConalogue addressed the audience by stating that “there continues to be a great respect and understanding and acknowledgement of the fact our combined future and welfare is tied with a good relationship and working together on as many aspects as possible.”
