Minister Paschal Donohoe T.D reiterated his admiration and support for the work of The Ireland Funds at the London City Lunch, hosted by Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli at Mansion House on Friday 17th May. In a fireside chat with Rory Godson, Senior Managing Partner of Powerscourt and Board Director of The Ireland Funds Great Britain, the Minister also touched on topics such as economic uncertainty, geopolitical upheavals and the upcoming Irish elections.
Over 200 guests, focused on fostering friendship and philanthropy, gathered to support The Ireland Funds Great Britain at its flagship fundraising event. Generously sponsored by McCann FitzGerald LLP and Bank of Ireland, the event raised funds for The Ireland Funds and its No Mind Left Behind scholarship programme, giving undergraduate students the opportunity to start and complete their college educations, when they might otherwise be prevented from doing so. In her welcome address, Chair of The Ireland Funds Great Britain, Bridget Walsh, spoke about the opportunities education provides and recalled the impact that access to university had on her home town. Furthermore, Katie Jemmett, Executive Director of the GB chapter, quoted the late Nelson Mandela to highlight that “education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world.”
Scholarship recipient, Beverly Genockey, shared her experience of attending university in London and the opportunities for learning, growth and development that she is enjoying during her studies, thanks to The Ireland Funds and its George Moore Scholarship programme.
