On Monday, September 11th, 2023, The Ireland Funds welcomed over 100 golfers to Bayonne Golf Club for The Ireland Funds 21st New Jersey Golf Classic.
This year’s event was held on the 22nd anniversary of 9/11. Caitriona Fottrell, President & CEO of The Ireland Funds, opened the program and shared that a portion of the funds raised from this year’s event would support two organizations working with families and first responders. These grants, to Tunnels to Towers and Heroes to Heroes, were in honor of Chris Duffy. Chris was one of the thousands who lost their lives that day in 2001 and was the beloved son of former Board Director John Duffy and brother of Caitlin Duffy, a former colleague of The Ireland Funds. A moment of silence was then held to remember all 9/11 victims and their families.
Caitriona gave huge thanks to the Committee, Lead Sponsors: The Conley Family, Charles P. Reagan, Baileys, Trident and Patrick Murphy, John Degnan, and everyone who came out to support the work of The Ireland Funds.
In not-so-Irish fashion, the weather was warm and dry, and guests had a great day out on the challenging links of Bayonne which were designed to rival the look and feel of the legendary links courses of Scotland and Ireland.
Following a long day on the course, guests gathered for a cocktail reception and dinner in the clubhouse and enjoyed the panoramic views of New York Harbor.
Pat Tully hosted a lively auction with prizes including VIP experiences at the All-Ireland Hurling Finals which were kindly donated by the GPA, access to the Mutual of America Suite at an upcoming Giants game, foursomes at some of New Jersey’s top golf courses and trips to Mountain Creek Resort and Hamilton Farms.
