Texas Seamus Heaney HomePlace Reception 2019

A delegation from The Seamus Heaney HomePlace was hosted at a private reception at the Museum of Biblical Art in Dallas on Friday, March 8, 2019 sponsored by Bob Hopkins, founder of Pave (Philanthropy and Volunteerism in Entrepreneurship) and by The Ireland Funds Texas Chapter.

The intimate gathering of 35 guests enjoyed learning about the HomePlace and mingling with Seamus Heaney’s son, Chris Heaney; Mid Ulster District Council Representatives Chair, Sean McPeake; Deputy Chair, Frances Burton; Chief Executive, Anthony Tohill; and HomePlace Manager, Brian McCormick.

“In addition to promoting our flagship projects and various other Irish-related causes, we also want to highlight new cultural experiences available in Ireland. The HomePlace is an Irish gem to be appreciated by everyone who gets to visit it,” said Darina Padian, Texas Director, The Ireland Funds.

The Seamus Heaney HomePlace is an award-winning arts and literary center dedicated to the life and work of Seamus Heaney, located in the Nobel Laureate’s home village of Bellaghy, Co. Derry. It features a fully interactive exhibition over two floors, filled with personal stories, photographs and the voice of the poet himself. A re-creation of his Dublin study transports visitors back to 1995, and the moment when Seamus Heaney was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, alongside artefacts, transcripts and books donated by the Heaney family. Seamus Heaney was recognized with The Ireland Funds AWB Vincent Literary Award in 1976 and presented with The Ireland Funds Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
