China – St Patrick’s Day Celebration with Consulate General of Ireland 2016

The Ireland Fund of China St Patrick’s Day Celebration  with the Consul General of Ireland

Noel Quinn, CEO of Global Commercial Banking, HSBC arranged the spectacular views from the penthouse Jackson Room of HSBC Head Office Building in Hong Kong for joint hosts the Consul General of Ireland to Hong Kong & Macau, and The Ireland Fund of China.

Just over 50 VIP guests, friends of Ireland drawn from government, business, philanthropic organizations and the local communities supported by The Ireland Fund of China, celebrated St Patrick’s Day at a stylish reception, followed by an Irish whiskey tasting.

Consul General Peter Ryan provided an eloquent history of St Patrick and Donal Boylan, Chairman of The Ireland Fund of China followed with modern context highlighting the 40 year history of The Ireland Funds. It was most fortuitous that a stalwart of those 40 years Bill McNally along with his wife Anne visiting his son David and daughter-in-law Meredith in Hong Kong, could be acknowledged on the night. To round out the circle, the room commemorated Sir Thomas Jackson, the HSBC Chief Executive accredited with bringing the bank to prominence – a man born in Carrigallen, County Leitrim – a village where St Patrick himself was recorded to have baptized followers at what is now its St Patrick’s Well and to have blessed the local graveyard at Errew.
