On Tuesday, February 4, 2014, Admiral Patrick M. Walsh addressed a Dallas Young Leaders Members Only Event.
Regional Advisory Board Member Kevin Curley hosted the gathering and all present had the enviable opportunity to hear “Life Lessons In Leadership” from four star Admiral Walsh, who most recently served as the 59th Commander of the US Pacific Fleet. It was in this role that he oversaw the US and international response to the 2011 Tohoku Tsunami which struck Japan. Admiral Walsh set the stage for the evening by explaining the need for integrative thinking while addressing challenging issues and situations. He then shared a video of America’s military and humanitarian response to an unimaginably challenging crisis, the 2011 Japanese Tsunami.
The video created by the people of Japan provided an overview of the damage caused by the Tsunami, as well as expressions of their deep appreciation for the aid afforded to them by the US recovery efforts in Operation “Tomodachi”, translated as “Friend”. For his work following the Tohoku Tsunami, the Japanese government presented Admiral Walsh with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun.
Admiral Walsh’s presentation stirred many Young Leaders present to ask questions relating to both leadership and national security matters, and a very interesting question and answer exchange followed Admiral Walsh’s presentation.
