On Tuesday, October 15th The American Ireland Fund hosted a private evening for our top supporters with 2014 European Ryder Cup Captain, Paul McGinley. The event took place in the Library Room of the Core Club, a members-only venue in the heart of midtown Manhattan.
As our friends arrived, they were greeted with passed hors d’oeuvres and signature cocktails from our friends at Pernod Ricard and Jameson, our sponsors for the evening. While guests enjoyed the warm atmosphere, they were able to meet and greet Paul and share stories of their own golf adventures with the Ryder Cup Captain.
The Worldwide Ireland Funds President & CEO Kieran McLoughlin took to the microphone to welcome the guests, thank our sponsors and announced the Promising Ireland Campaign’s newly increased goal of raising $200 million for Irish charities. Kieran then introduced our guest of honor Paul McGinley and Bob Carney of Golf Digest Magazine, who hosted a “fireside chat” with Paul.
Mr. Carney asked Paul a series of questions about his career as a professional golfer, a Ryder Cup player and now captain of the European Squad. Supporters listened intently as Paul provided incredible insight to the psyche of the Ryder Cup players and the intensity of playing on a world stage.
Guests were able to ask their own questions to Paul, who provided in-depth and colorful answers.
After the conversation completed, the evening continued on with photo opportunities with Paul and a light dinner.
Special thanks to David Brookes of Brookes Sport as well as Stephen O’Neil, Patrick Caulfield and JB Woodworth of Pernod Ricard for sponsoring the intimate event.
