The American Ireland Fund Women’s Group is a society dedicated to supporting the goals of The American Ireland Fund while celebrating the political, philanthropic and creative achievements of women of the Irish diaspora.
Over 50 supporters of the AIF Women’s Group gathered to welcome two outstanding women of Wall Street: Kathleen Kelley and Renee Haugerud, for an evening of wine, hors d’oeuvres and a discussion with emcee, Pat Tully, New York Director of the AIF.
Kathleen and Renee spoke candidly about their experiences in their roles as Chief Investment Officers on Wall Street. Both of these women are founders of their own macro hedge funds and believe aspects of the female approach to risk management have attributed to their success. They emphasized the need for women to support one another in the business world. Topics discussion ranged from the current and future state of the Irish economy to Ireland's economic potential.
Kathleen, CIO of Queen Anne’s Gate Capital, serves on numerous boards both in New York and the UK and believes in the importance of philanthropy and giving back.
Renee, CIO of Galtere, encourages young women to trade as a career and established the Galtere Institute at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga which focuses on providing young people, particularly women, with opportunities and exposure to the world of global-macro finance.
The event concluded with a question and answer session. Both speakers shared stories and advice for newly qualified finance professionals.
Our supporters very much appreciated forthright and honest view presented by Renee and Kathleen on the challenges facing women in the industry.
