11th Annual Philadelphia Golf Classic 2012

The 11th annual American Ireland Philadelphia Golf outing took place on Monday, September 10th at Philadelphia Country Club. The luck of the Irish was in full effect as the weather was picture perfect for a day of fun and fundraising out on the Golf course.

The day started with a gorgeous lunch on the terrace overlooking the outing with Philadelphia classics such as hot roast beef hoagies and Philadelphia soft pretzels, which were also available as snacks out on the course.

Our honoree Sean Rooney arrived bright and early and hit the range with friends and family who came out to support him and The American Ireland Fund’s Promising Ireland Campaign.

The tournament concluded around 5PM when the cocktail reception and silent auction began.

The dinner kicked off with a greeting from Worldwide Ireland Funds President & CEO, Kieran McLoughlin, who thanked our presenting sponsor, Michael Gallagher and Pepper Hamilton LLP and then introduced Sean Rooney to accept The American Ireland Fund Leadership Award.

Sean Rooney gave a heartfelt speech about his family’s connection to the very beginning of The American Ireland Fund which was started by his uncle Dan Rooney and Sir Anthony O’Reilly. He then spoke about his own foundation he started in honor of his late wife Kelly Rooney, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2006.

The evening concluded with a live auction of a 2013 US Open VIP experience package (taking place at the Merion Golf Club in Philadelphia) and golf awards ceremony, where to no one’s shock, the Rooney Family had the low net score and won the tournament.

Special thanks to our fantastic golf committee, including: Michael Gallagher, Sean Rooney, Ward Fitzgerald, Fran Van Kirk, Randy LeTang, Michael McCabe, Bob Loftus, Jim Kane, Jason Early, Tony Hayden and Eustace Wolfington.

We look forward to seeing our loyal supporters at the 12th annual tournament taking place at Philadelphia Country Club on Monday, September 9th, 2013.
