Le 18e Bal des Oies Sauvages s’est tenu en février dernier (2012) au Pavillon Dauphine.
A l’appel d’Ireland Funds of France, plus de 120 personnes étaient présentes.
L’invité d’honneur, le coureur cycliste Stephen Roche marquait ainsi le 25e anniversaire de sa triple victoire de 1987, année où il remportait successivement ; Le Tour de France, Le Giro d’Italie et le Championnat du Monde.
Le Trophée des Oies Sauvages, lui était remis par Le Ministre irlandais des Transport, du Tourisme et du Sport, Leo Varadkar TD.
A cette occasion, le Ministre s’est exprimé en termes élogieux sur le travail accompli par Ireland Funds : « Au nom du Gouvernement, je souhaite rendre hommage au superbe travail accompli par Ireland Fund, au service de causes légitimes en Irlande, mettant l’accent sur la paix la culture, l’éducation et la charité dans toute l’île d’Irlande. La conséquence de la crise économique fait que les appels au secours sont en augmentation, alors que les aides gouvernementales et privées sont réduites. Je suis certain que la campagne d’Ireland Funds jouera un rôle essentiel pour palier cette carence et nous aidera à maintenir la cohésion de notre société en ces temps particulièrement difficiles »

The 18th Wild Geese Ball was held in Paris on Feb 10th was thoroughly enjoyed by the 120 guests of French, Irish and other friends.
Stephen Roche the champion Irish cyclist was the Guest of Honour, marking the 25th anniversary of his Triple Crown win in 1987: the year he won the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and the World Championship road cycling race.
The Irish Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar TD presented the Wild Geese trophy to Stephen and spoke in eloquent terms about the work of The Ireland Funds.
"On behalf of the Irish Government, I want to acknowledge the fine work done by The Ireland Funds for worthy causes in Ireland which place an emphasis on peace, culture, education and charity. Charities across Ireland are under pressure. As a consequence of our economic crisis, demand for their services has soared while government support and private income has reduced. I am sure that The Ireland Funds ‘Promising Ireland Campaign’ will play a vital role in filling that gap and helping us to keep our society together during these harsh and challenging times.”
