The Singapore Ireland Fund was launched on August 31st last with a cocktail party at the residence of the Ambassador of Ireland, Mr Richard O’Brien.
The Chairman Dr Stanley Quek capitulated guests by outlining the long history of the Irish in Singapore – and the worldwide network of Ireland Funds, which has raised over 300 million Euros for charity.
Money raised this year by The Singapore Ireland Fund goes to a vocational education programme at Eden School, a specialist school in Singapore for children with autism. Singaporean NMP Denise Phua, who founded the school, moved guests with her presentation on the challenges faced by autistic children and their teachers.
The major activity this year is a gala dinner on Saturday 21 November, at the St Regis Hotel Singapore. The theme will be to celebrate the 250th birthday of Sir Arthur Guinness, a special Irishman, entrepreneur, visionary and philanthropist.
