This year's American Ireland Fund Pittsburgh Gala embraced "Going Green" to reflect this year's AIF Chairman's Award recipients, Giant Eagle, Inc., and it's CEO and President, David Shapira, for their commitment to the community and the planet. Giant Eagle, Inc. has been a leader in the implementation of green technologies through numerous environmental sustainability efforts.
Gateway Financial President and CEO David Malone served as the gala dinner chair. PNC Financial Services Group Chairman and CEO, and United States Ambassador to Ireland Dan Rooney, presented the AIF Chairman's Award to David Shapira. Pittsburgh Steelers President Art Rooney, II performed the traditional Irish toast to the honoree, and The Worldwide Ireland Funds President and CEO Kieran McLoughlin shared with the guests recent successes of the Fund.
Ambassador & Mrs. Rooney and David & Cindy Shapira greeted many of the 600 guests as they strolled the Heinz Field's East Club Lounge – transformed into an Irish marketplace. In attendance were David & Vanessa Morehouse, Andrea Carelli, Lauren & Tom Karet, Kevin & Kate Srigley, Greta & Art Rooney, II, Sy Holzer, Jim & Pattie Terwilliger, Dr. Leo & Susan McCafferty, Jim & Stephanie Rooney, Hoddy & Mary Anne Hanna, Marty & Ann McGuinn and Joe & Rebecca Hardy.
