In addition to serving on the Board of TheAmerican Ireland Fund, he served on the boards ofthe Northern Ireland Trade and Investment Council,TheFlaxTrust,andtheTaoiseachseconomic advisory board. He was the Trustee of the NorthernIreland Memorial Fund and was involved with theIrish Technology Leadership Group as well as theGlobalIrishEconomicForum.Hereceivedthe Outstanding Alumnus Award from University CollegeDublinin1991andwasawardedanhonorary doctorate in sciences by the University of Ulster in2006. In 2007, he received an honorary CBE fromQueen Elizabeth in recognition of his contribution toNorthern Irelands economy.
