b'ARoUND ThE WoRLD AUSTRALIAThe Board of Directors of The Australian Ireland Fund is pleased toannounce that the following outstanding organizations will sharefunding totaling $384,000 thanks to the generosity of our supporters.Australian Indigenous Education FoundationInspired by similiar support for Integrated Education in Northern Ireland, in Australia we are sup-porting reconciliation in association with the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF), a pri-vate sector led non-profit organisation focused on empowering Indigenous children in financial needto build a future through quality education and careers at Australias leading schools, universitiesand companies.Suas Education DevelopmentOne in ten children leave Irish primary schools with serious literacy difficulties, in disadvantagedcommunities, this figure rises to one in three. The Australian Ireland Fund and Irish charity Suas Educational Development launch/announce a partnership to improve levels of literacy among youngpeopleinIreland.Thepartnership,whichsupportsschoolchildrenindisadvantagedurban communities to improve their literacy through paired reading and the use of technologies, will support 1,475 8-14 year olds to develop their reading, writing, spelling and listening skills.Junior Achievement Junior Achievement Ireland encourages young people to remain in education and helps them develop the skills they need to succeed in a changing world. Their programs help to create a culture of enterprise within the education system and help young people prepare for the world ofwork, giving them skills in communications, financial literacy and preparing for interviews. Drumragh Integrated College in OmaghIntegrated Education brings children and staff from Catholic and Protestant traditions, as well asthose of other faiths, or none, together in one school. For the past 30 years, in a deeply divided society, Integrated Schools have been an alternative to an educational system in which most childrenattend largely religiously separated schools. Lady Fairfax and the Sir Warwick Fairfax Trust have beenmajor supporters of Integrated Education for the last 10 years. Integrated Schools differ from otherschools in Northern Ireland by ensuring that children from diverse backgrounds are educated to-gether every day in the same classrooms. Through their Admissions Criteria they enroll approxi-mately equal numbers of Catholic and Protestant children, as well as children from other religious andcultural backgrounds.BarnardosThe Australian Ireland Fund supports Loughlinstown Family Support Services which is affiliated withBarnardos. Barnardos works directly with the children and families who need them most, providingservices and support in 40 centres around Ireland. They also campaign for the rights of all childrenin Ireland, and provide training and knowledge resources to childcare professionals. Barnardos iscommitted to a needs-led, outcomes-focused approach in their delivery of services to children andfamilies. At the heart of everything they do, they strive to achieve two outcomes for the children andyoung people: increased emotional well-being and improved learning and development.connect2014 | 100'
