Making Transatlantic Connections

The African American Irish Diaspora Network (AAIDN) explores and strengthens relationships between African Americans, the island of Ireland, and the global Irish diaspora. An estimated 30-40% of African Americans have Irish ancestry, and AAIDN creates opportunities for connection rooted in shared history, education, and innovation.

The Ireland Funds’ support has helped the organization in:

  • Facilitating scholarly investigation into interconnected histories
  • Expanding cultural and educational exchange programs
  • Building partnerships between HBCUs and Irish universities
  • Launching international innovation and enterprise initiatives

The Ireland Funds has been an indispensable partner in helping AAIDN achieve its mission. The strategic support, relationships, and collaboration provided has been instrumental in establishing initiatives linking Irish universities with Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and to launch an [international] innovation partnership.
