It was attended by a number of Ronan MacSweeneydistinguished guests and over 1,200 Lansdowne Club members, their colleagues and peers. The event 3 Sabine Hochbaum, Prime Minister Julia Gillard, generated extensive media coverage nationally and internationally and has reached iconic status on theTeresa Keating4 Fiona Tuite, Dermot McCann Australian Irish calendar. The Club was proud to welcome The Hon Julia Gillard MP, Prime Minister of 5 Alistair Muir, Diarmuid Woods, Australia, and the Premier of New South Wales, The Hon. Barry O'Farrell MP. Mr. Alan Shatter TD, MinisterBarry Dillon for Justice, Equality and Defence represented the Irish Government on the day telling those present thatwhilst Ireland was having a tough time economically, things are looking up with foreign Direct Investmentcreating 13,000 new jobs in Ireland last year and exports at an all-time high. Chairman Peter Brennan presented the Prime Minister with the first ever platinum Club lapel pin, Premier Barry OFarrell with Waterford Crystal glasses and Minister Shatter with a painting of Sydney Habour from Billich. Mary Leereceived the Chairmans award for her determination in making The Australian Ireland Fund Chair of Modern Irish Studies at the University of New South Wales a reality.
